One day I decided to stop at this local dance club and see if I could get a Disc Jockey job. The owner said "Do you know how to mix" I said "no" To this day I really don't understand why I tried to get a DJ gig at that place when I didn't even know how to mix. I suddenly found myself hurrying home to practice on my turntables. For hours I was practicing and suddenly I got it. I was so excited. I actually called the club owner whom I just visited and said "Listen to this" I paced the phone over by the speaker and started mixing. I can't imagine what he was thinking.
I thought I was great, but in fact it was terrible, Just terrible. A few years latter I had the mixing down to a science. I found myself one day in a beautiful home of a famous Chicago DJ. Scott Smokin' Silz from the "Hot Mix Five" on WBMX radio. I was auditioning for a Disc Jockey job. I was waiting in his studio. He had some beautiful Technics1200's along with a high tech mixing board. He walked in plopped himself on the couch and said "Okay! lets see what you got." I was so nervous, but just started doing my think. When I was done he had this look. I thought oh well another opportunity that bombed. He said "When can you start?" It was a great feeling of achievement working for Scott. During that time I got out of the magic. I always had a struggle between the two. Magic, music, music, magic.
One day it hit me. I thought for the amount of time it takes me to drive to location, set up my DJ gear, do a 4hour show, tear down and drive back home. I could make just as much maybe even more doing magic. That's when I decided to get back into the magic.
I have never forgotten the gift of music and being able to combine different songs together creating a wonderful feeling and making hundreds of people dance. I now use my knowledge of music in my shows and choreograph all the music, riffs sound effects into my routines. I just love customizing.
This song "THE MAGIC ANTHM"-"THE LEGENDS OF MAGIC" was made in one week. I recorded it in my kitchen where I have a temporary desk because my office is being relocated.
I know thought it would be cool to write a song that honors all the magicians who dedicated there life to magic.
